New Hampshire rape shield law unclear. Supreme Court reverses itself, asks legislators to fix

Union Leader Editorial: Rape shield: Time to strengthen the law.

The House Judiciary Committee has avoided an unnecessary showdown over a bill to strengthen New Hampshire’s rape shield law.

The New Hampshire Supreme Court last year ruled that the law only applied during the trial phase, and not during a defendant’s appeals. The court soon reversed itself, but called on the Legislature to clear up what it called a confusing statute.
